Multiple Teams · Devin Schulte and Crista Izuzquiza name Top Athletes Class of 2020

Each year the athletic department has the difficult task in naming the Niedermeyer and Hinkle award winners in honor of the top male and female athlete of the class.

Niedermeyer Winner- Devin Schulte

Devin’s main sport was lacrosse where he lettered three years and his junior year earned All-League and All CIF honors.  In his senior year he was named by Coach Cade as one of the team’s captains and had the season not been cut short he most likely would have earned the same honors this year.  He decided his senior year to try football and while never playing before earned All-League honors and was name the team’s MVP.

Hinkle Winner – Crista Izuzquiza

Crista played golf and left no doubt that she is a force to be reckoned with.  She qualified all four years for the CIF-SDS individual tournament. She helped lead her team to three CIF qualifications and her senior year the team placed 2nd in Division II. Individually Crista won the City Match play tournament both her Junior and Senior years. Her senior year Crista  placed 2nd  in the County tournament, 1st in the Southern California Regional Tournament and went on to place 3rd in the State Tournament at Poppy Hills.

While both Devin and Crista excelled in their sport(s) the athletic department also wants to recognize that both young adults are prime examples of what athletics is all. While both were fierce competitors both showed great sportsmanship and were looked up to by their teammates.

Congratulations to both Devin and Crista – Proud to Call you ISLANDERS!
